About Our Web Site
The Internet has provided many Canadians with an enhanced sense of empowerment.
But for many people, gaining access to web content is more difficult. Some Canadians
rely on assistive technologies such as text readers, audio players and voice-activated
devices to overcome the barriers presented by standard technologies. Others may
be limited by access to technology. Many older browsers, non-standard operating
systems, slow connections, small screens or text-only screens limit obtaining
information that is readily available to others.
To provide as universally accessible access as possible, this web site has
been designed to the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C), Internet accessibility
standards W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
WC3 Accessibility Guidelines
This include the use of cascading style sheets, limited use of graphics, expansive
use of "alt" descriptions or longdesc tags, no frames, no roll over
Java scripting, modified text reader capabilities and the use of colour blind
safe colours. This site has passed both the WC3's CSS and HTML 4.01 validation
tests.
The OCHAP site was designed to be best viewed using Netscape 6.x or higher
and Internet Explorer 5.x or higher. However, provisions have been made to allow
this site to work using Netscape 4.x and Opera but some features found in the cascading
style sheets will not be available.
While every reasonable effort has been made to ensure the accessibility of
this site, some content or services found here might be inaccessible to some visitors.
In those circumstances, please contact the
webmaster at webmaster@ochap.ca and all attempts will be made to assist.
